When I found out that my little sister was pregnant, I delayed posting because it was before the time one is allowed to make those kinds of announcements publicly. Of course, at the time I was also a delinquent blogger so it fell off my radar until the nights started cooling off here in SD and I began to remember that even though it really doesn't feel like Fall, my sister's due date is right around the corner. She is officially due at the end of December, but if I've learned anything from my older sister, she could probably deliver any time in the window between November and January. This means I am extremely far behind in my knitting. Naturally, I want to make my sister's baby something really special. I knit my older sister's daughters monogrammed blankets, so naturally, I feel compelled to continue the blanket tradition. But do I make another monogrammed blanket or do I give in to the seduction of Jared Flood? I've been imagining this blanket in cream and sage.
Because the baby will be born into a cold, Canadian winter. I am tempted to knit baby (we don't know the gender - it's a surprise) a bunting bag, like the one from the purl bee.
I'm completely in love with it but have no idea how to put in a zipper, which I think is the only thing holding me back. This surprises me a little bit because not knowing how to do something is usually my impetus to pick a project. I think I may be a bit tentative about deciding what to make because I really want it all to be perfect.
Of course, I also vainly want everyone at the baby shower to be blown away. The pressure is killing me!

hahah I can totally relate with the part about "vainly wanting everyone at the baby shower to be blown away" ;) i'm sure whatever you choose to knit will be exceptional. and both those projects you linked to are gorgeous! especially love that blanket... :)

They both look amazing. Funny how small my stomach looks there. You should see it now.

I love the initial blankies, they're something they can hold on to for the rest of their lives.
Not that I'm trying to deter you from your project ;)

Allie, whatever you knit will look adorable on the baby. What could be cuter than a hybrid of Bess and Sami?
Anyways, the one and only baby sweater I've ever knit required me to sew in a zipper. Other than having a little trouble finding one the right length sewing it in was actually not that bad! Although they can't grow out of blankets so that's a good choice, too. How do you know what letter to put in the monogram?
